Powered by Class-Leading PCIe Gen4 Switch Technology
The Rocket 1749E is powered by HighPoint’s proven PCIe Gen4 Switching Architecture, which employs Broadcom’s industry leading PEX88048 IC Switch IC to optimize signal integrity, minimize latency and maximize data transfer speed. This enables the Rocket 1749E to provide x48 lanes of internal PCIe Gen4 bandwidth; x16 lanes are allocated to the upstream connection to the host platform, and 32 to the downstream ports (with x4 lanes to each NVMe port). This innovative, performance-focused architecture guarantees that maximum bandwidth is available to each E1.S SSD at all times, enabling the solution to a class-leading 28GB/s of real-world transfer performance.
Native, Driverless Mainstream OS Support delivers Seamless Deployment Experience
Rocket 1749E AICs are natively supported by all modern Linux and Windows based operating systems, and utilize Broadcom’s embedded MPT driver, and the OS’s native NVMe drivers. Administrators need only physically install the AIC – no software installation or unique management suite is required.
HighPoint PCIe/NVMe Switch storage solutions are universally compatible with all modern operating systems, including Microsoft Windows/Windows Server, Azure and Hyper-V, and Linux distributions such as RHEL, Debian, Ubuntu, & Rocky Linux.
NVMe media hosted by the AIC will be automatically recognized by these platforms, and can be formatted and partitioned using the default storage interface or SDS (software defined storage) application of choice.
In addition, native OS compatibility significantly streamlines service and maintenance sessions as support for the hardware is already embedded directly into each OS.
Compact, High-Endurance, and Feature-Rich NVMe Storage Solutions
Rocket 1749E AICs are the industry’s most compact datacenter grade NVMe storage solutions, and directly host up to eight 9.5mm or four 15mm E1.S drives via a single PCIe x16 slot. E1.S media provides significant advantages over client-class M.2 NVMe SSDs, offering a range of features typically associated with enterprise storage solutions, and excel in workflows that require persistent operation for extended periods of time, such as an online database or cloud storage service. As such, they can consistently maintain a high level of sustained write performance over extended I/O sessions, and have very long lifespans.
Compact Hardware Footprint: E1.S media is comparable in size to the M.2 2280 form factor; ideal for compact industrial platforms and desktop/workstation environments that are incapable of hosting 2.5” drive configurations.
High-Endurance: E1.S media was designed for applications that run for prolonged periods of time. As such, the endurance of E1.S SSDs is measured in DWPD (disk writes per day) as opposed to TBW (total bytes written), associated with client-class media.
Ultra-Low Latency: Minimizing latency enhances response time, which is critical for applications that require minimal delay, such as a database solution, virtualization service, or high-frequency trading servers.
Power Loss Protection (PLP): helps mitigate the risk of losing in-transit data during a power outage or PSU failure. PLP capable SSDs utilize can transfer data stored in the cache-NAND to permanent flash memory when the host system suddenly loses power.
Enhanced Data Security: E1.S media are often equipped with advanced security features such SED (self-encrypting disk) or FIPS (federal information processing standard) technology, which prevents access to data from unauthorized users.
NVMe-MI Support: Rocket 1749E AICs are designed to accommodate NVMe-MI capable E1.S storage media. NVMe-MI (NVMe Management Interface specification) provides an industry-standard framework for monitoring and managing the operational and health status of storage media, including endurance ratings, temperature and power consumption, and service providers to initiate firmware updates through Rocket 1749E AIC.
In summary, DC (datacenter) class E1.S NVMe SSDs provide a variety of advanced features designed to maximize transfer performance, enhance response time, and streamline the serviceability of data-intensive storage applications and demanding datacenter and edge computing environments.
Revolutionary Cooling Solution and Toolless System: Enhancing Performance and Simplifying Maintenance
The Rocket 1749E’s advanced cooling system is unique to our dual-width AIC product line, and was designed to enhance the performance potential and reliability of DC class NVMe media. The hardware system is comprised of a full-length anodized aluminum casing, integrated heat sinks and a pair of ultra-durable, low-decibel cooling fans. This compact, efficient solution fully encases and insulates E1.S media from the host computing environment, and rapidly transfers waste heat away from critical SSD and controller componentry without injecting excessive noise into the workplace.
Unlike conventional AICs, SSDs are mounted vertically to maximize contact with the cooling airflow ingested from the twin fans to promote longevity of the E1.S media and switch IC while actively combat the threat of thermal throttling to ensure maximum transfer performance and responsiveness. The system has proven to be highly effective in real-world environments, and is fully capable of facilitating 24/7 operation.
The Rocket 1749E’s toolless SSD loading system was designed to simplify installation, upgrade and maintenance procedures. Technicians do not need to remove the PCIe device from the host system in order to access the storage media; the dual-fan cooling system features a unique latching mechanism that enables the module to swing up and away from the PCB to reveal the SSD slots. Each slot features a quick-release latch which enables administrators to quickly install or remove the SSDs without the need for hand tools or fasteners.
