Rocket 1600 NVMe Switch AICs and Adapters are powered by High-Performance PCIe Gen5 Switching Architecture, which has incorporated Broadcom’s 48-Channel PEX89048 switch IC to provide x16 lanes of dedicated PCIe Gen5 upstream bandwidth, and ensures x4 lanes of downstream bandwidth are available for each NVMe device channel. The innovative hardware architecture enables these solutions to deliver up to 64GB/s of transfer bandwidth, minimize latency, facilitate consistent, robust I/O throughput, and support as many as 32 NVMe devices via backplane connectivity.

Native Hardware Support

Rocket 1600 series NVMe AICs and Adapters will be automatically recognized by any modern operating systems with Native NVMe driver support.

Administrators need only physically install the AIC or Adapter card – no device driver or software applications are required!

Integrated LCD Indication & Alert System

Built-in early warning LED Indicators, integrated on the left-side of the PCB (and viewable through the PCIe bracket) enable a field technicians to instantly asses the operational status and condition of NVMe storage.

The AIC/Adapter will initiate simple color codes and flashing patterns to convey the current status of various hardware attributes, such as the strength of the PCIe connection, behavior of hosted NVMe media, and any temperature warnings reported by the cooling system. 

True Hot-Plug & Hot-Swap Capability

Administrators are free to add or remove SSDs while the system remains operational – rebooting or shutting down the host platform is not required. This is made possible by the Rocket 1600 series PCIe Gen5 Switching Architecture. The Adapters employ a technique known as a “Synthetic Hierarchy” to isolate the host system’s operating system from any PCIe topology changes (physical changes). This enables the AIC/Adapter to directly manage resource allocation to the downstream PCIe channels and provide true Hot-Swap /Hot-Plug capability.

OOB Management

Rocket 1600 series adapters provide OOB (out-of-band) management support, which is an essential component of professional-grade server infrastructure. MBC & MCTP over PCIe enables an administrator to securely interface with the adapter without the need for internet access. The service is scalable and can be used to administrate multiple servers via Linux command prompts to manage storage in both Pre-OS and OS-level environments.

Field Replaceable Units (FRU)

Rocket 1600 series AICs and adapters are field replaceable units (FRU). This enables service providers to easily procure replacements with the correct model/hardware version combination.

Rocket 1600 series Adapters benefit from an advanced PCIe Gen5 passive cooling solution employs a Full-Length Aluminum heat exchanger with copper piping to rapidly whisk waste heat away from the Gen5 switch IC and controller componentry to ensure reliability and promote longevity of the adapter hardware. The design is ideal for server and datacenter applications as it utilizes no moving parts and requires no maintenance.

AIC Cooling System

Rocket 1608A AICs innovative, multi-layered PCIe Gen5 NVMe hardware cooling solution employs a full-Length Aluminum Heatsink with copper SSD contacts, dual thermal pads and a powerful low-decibel cooling fan to ensure hosted M.2 media always operate within their recommended temperature threshold to maximize lifespan and transfer performance.
